Major Enhancements Slated for Othello's Kiwanis Park in Spring 2026

Kiwanis Park in Othello is set for a major upgrade in spring 2026, transforming it into a more welcoming, inclusive community space.

Mayor Shawn Logan confirmed that a new splash pad—delayed to allow for state approvals—will now break ground next spring.

Backed by a $1.26 million grant, the project includes the splash pad, trail renovations, and an interactive railroad-themed play area, connecting the park to local history.

The splash pad will feature ground-level and accessible water elements, including a dramatic “super soaker” dumping 55 gallons at a time.

Two new lighted basketball courts, including one for limited mobility users, will be added with a $346,500 grant, while the city provides $38,500.

Plans also call for a modern, accessible playground, safer surfacing, and expanded parking—including updated disabled spaces.

These enhancements aim to better serve Othello’s youth and bring new vitality to the heart of the community.

Othello Debates Funding for Reynolds Road Roundabout

The busy intersection of State Route 26 and South Reynolds Road in Othello is at the center of a heated debate over a proposed roundabout meant to improve safety and traffic flow.

Port Commissioner Deena Vietzke urged collaboration between the city and the Port of Othello to seek funding for the project, highlighting increased traffic from nearby development.

Currently, only stop signs control the intersection, but many believe this is no longer enough as the area grows.

However, Council Member Corey Everett questioned the city's involvement, arguing that the Washington Department of Transportation should lead the effort.

WSDOT spokesperson Sebastian Moraga clarified there are no immediate plans for a roundabout, citing state prioritization and funding challenges.

As discussions continue, local leaders weigh the roundabout’s potential benefits against funding hurdles and local responsibility, hoping for a solution that meets Othello’s evolving needs.
